PlayStation quietly scrapped sequel we were all waiting for

We'll always wonder what could have been...

Another sequel we’d been hopefully waiting for has been scrapped.

Perhaps we should be used to this barb, for we feel it often. Yet here we are feeling sorry for ourselves once more.

Despite its mixed ratings when it launched, The Order: 1869 has amassed a loyal following.

As far as many fans are concerned, it’s an underrated banger that deserved less heat than it received.

The Order: 1869 was the start of something amazing

They also argue how it deserved a sequel.

We’re sorry to say that PlayStation has quietly scrapped those plans.

Consequently, any chance of a sequel, at least for now, is gone.

Knowing this is bad enough, but when you delve deeper into how close we came to that sequel, it’s so much worse.

According to PlayStation Lifestyle, before Ready at Dawn was swallowed up by Meta, plans for a second game were in the works.

Purportedly, though, nothing was greenlit.

Still, it’s evident from the cliffhangers abound in The Order: 1869 that there was more to the story than we’d already played.

Hopes for a follow-up have lingered for quite some time, however, now that the studio has closed down, the last of the fandom’s hope has died along with it.

“That is very unfortunate,” said Twitter user Otto Tieleman upon reading the news, “With lessons learned from the first game and the focus on gameplay this could have been an amazing IP.”

Others hid behind bittersweet jokes to voice their annoyance.

“Meta always ruins everything. Your privacy, your games, your life,” said CyberJ.

It “sucks” that we’ve been robbed of the chance of seeing how it all ends; The Order: 1869 has its flaws, but it also holds such potential, too.

However unlikely it seems, some fans are still holding out for Sony to “do the right thing”.
