PlayStation quietly releases update we didn't know we needed

What a coincidence that this dropped alongside the PlayStation Spring Sale

PlayStation users just got treated to a sneaky little update on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and it’s something fans have been begging Sony to add to both systems since they launched.

Thank you in advance to Push Square's Sammy Barker for the original source!

It seems that Sony has loosened the restrictions on one of its most unnecessarily limited features, just in time to help everyone spend some more money.

As spotted by users over on the ResetEra forum, the number of games you can now add to your wishlist through the PlayStation Store has increased - although nobody is quite sure how much it’s increased by.

“Looks like the last update increased the wishlist limit,” commented user dbcyber.

“It's definitely not 100 anymore because I just hit over 120 games wishlisted.”

Ghost of Yōtei is on my wishlist.

“Yeah, added some games just to confirm and got past 125. No idea what's the limit now,” replied user nolifebr.

Users in the thread seem to think the upper limit is now 188, which is a weirdly specific number (although I’m sure there’s some kind of logic to it on Sony’s behalf).

It might seem a bit odd that there are limits on the number of things you can wishlist at all, considering having a larger wishlist means players are more likely to spend extra money, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume it was some kind of database restriction.

If you’re wondering why they might have suddenly decided to up the limit, there’s a very simple reason for that: the PlayStation Store Spring Sale is currently live.

Players are probably a lot more likely to wishlist games during this period, as they’ll be incentivised to scroll through all of the games that are on sale. That way, they might be keen to drop a little bit more cash once the Summer Sale rolls around.
