PS5 and Xbox Series X/S users are getting a free new-gen upgrade for a big RPG later this year.

Although we’re nearly five years into the current generation of gaming hardware, games from the previous generation are still seeing upgrades to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Live service titles such as Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Fortnite each received next-gen upgrades once the hardware was available.

Even single-player games like The Witcher 3 and A Plague Tale: Innocence got updates for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is coming to PS5 on 17 April!

There were a lot of games released during the 2010s that simply did not reach their fullest potential because of the limited power those consoles had. Hence, why upgrades are needed.

Later this year, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S users will be treated to a new upgrade for a major RPG. But there’s a catch.

Black Desert will be receiving native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions on 26 June, 2025.

This was announced just as developer Pearl Abyss celebrated five years since cross-play was added to the game.

The catch? This means the last-gen versions of Black Desert will be retired due to the ageing hardware.

So, PS4 and Xbox One players will soon have to shift over to the latest generation if they want to continue playing.

The new-gen update for Black Desert comes with improved performance along with new content like the Ulukita monster zone and Deadeye class. Pearl Abyss will shed more light on this at a later date.

Pearl Abyss has also said the new-gen upgrades for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will come with a seamless data transfer.

Players should have no problem transferring and accessing their save file, even after the last-gen versions have been sunset.

It's a shame to have to leave the old platforms behind, but given how old the Xbox One and PS4 is now, the majority of Black Desert players are probably playing on newer hardware.

Still, if you’re a die-hard Black Desert player on console who hasn’t got a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S yet, you’ll have until 26 June, 2025 to grab one.
