PlayStation Plus Subscriber Issues Urgent Warning, Users Could Lose Free Game

Be warned subscribers

PlayStation Plus subscribers could lose access to one of their free games if they’re not careful.

Compared to the flack Xbox Game Pass has been getting this month, PlayStation Plus feels like a dream and the new additions landing today, 21 October, feel like further proof of that.

It’s not perfect, mind you, as the cost is still quite high but if you primarily play on either PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, it’s usually a good deal. That is, when it’s not stealing your free games off you.

Today, a brand new batch of titles will arrive on PlayStation Plus, including; Silent Hill 2, Until Dawn, As Dusk Falls, V Rising, Poppy Playtime: Chapter 1, Wizard with a Gun and last but not least, Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

They’re not all winners but you couldn’t ask for a better line-up for Halloween, especially with Alan Wake 2 as one of the PlayStation Plus Essential games.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon comes with a warning for subscribers though, as many will likely already own the game and if you do you could be at risk of losing it.

SEGA’s RPG was once one of the PlayStation Plus Essential games which is where many will have likely snagged it from, but be warned as its arrival on PlayStation Plus Extra could change your ownership if you claim it again.

This warning was shared to the PlayStation Plus Reddit by kabirsingh84 who said: “If you claimed the PS Plus Essential version of Yakuza: Like A Dragon in August, 2022, do not add or download the Extra version available."

They continued, “The license will get overwritten and you'll lose access to the Essential version when the game leaves Extra. Check your game library.”

Basically you could own the game already, yours to keep forever, but have that version replaced by the PlayStation Plus Extra version that’ll leave your library whenever Sony removes it from the subscription service.

This would be utterly heartbreaking too, as Yakuza: Like A Dragon comes highly recommended to all players, even those who’ve never touched a Yakuza game before so it’s worth keeping in your library as long as you can.

So with all of that in mind, be careful about what you do next now that those new PlayStation Plus Extra games have landed, otherwise you could lose access to arguably the best game of the batch.

You’ve been warned.
