PlayStation Plus' latest free game is one of the greatest games of all-time

You just have to play this all-time classic

PlayStation Plus, the gift that keeps on giving, is adding a stone-cold classic to its lineup. While it may not be for everyone, it’s an all-time banger that received acclaim from both critics and players alike.

Resident Evil 2, the remake, not the original release, took the world by storm when it first released. Players were sceptical at first - how could Capcom improve on one of the best survival horror games ever made? Well, it was in good hands and the developer not only nailed the conversion but also introduced new features that transformed the game for a modern audience.

Resident Evil 2 is remade in good hands and delivers almost perfection

Now it has been added to the PlayStation Plus catalogue, there’s no excuse not to play it. Unless it’s too spooky for you, of course. You’ll find yourself in Raccoon City surrounded by swarms of zombies, creeping around to discover items and weapons while stopping occasionally for a bombastic action set-piece.

Capcom is, unarguably, the master of survival horror and Resident Evil 2 showcases that with perfection. While there are other Capcom games we’d love to see remade, this was a showstopper and a lesson to the industry on how to improve and capture a true classic. Not only did they manage to port over the tremendous gameplay, but they beefed up the visuals to the point of sheer beauty. Even the gory, blood-drenched scenes look spectacular, and the darkness, enhanced by HDR on PS5, feels properly spooky.

Don’t worry too much if you haven’t played the original, you aren’t missing a huge amount of the story, and much of it is recapped in this sequel anyway. You owe it to yourself to give this a try, even if you played itthe first time around and are worried it may spoil your memories, trust me, it won’t. It’s a brilliant update.
