PlayStation Plus gamers are being urged to try out one of its most lauded titles, which may come as a surprise to some considering the IP it’s based on.
Although the quantity of the games on PlayStation Plus will never match up to the breadth of titles available on Xbox Game Pass, it’s hard to fault it on the quality side of things.
Sure, you might find yourself out of games to play by the time your yearly subscription comes to a close, but at least you’ll be able to say that the majority of the titles you’ve played are bangers.
However, one PlayStation 5 game keeps coming up again and again on PlayStation Plus recommendation lists, which sort of implies that, for whatever reason, a lot of folks skipped over this banger when it originally released back in 2021.

If you've played it, you likely already know that I'm referring to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, the action-adventure game developed by Eidos-Montréal and published by Square Enix.
Surprisingly, even though you would assume that this one sold like hotcakes when it first dropped, gamers over in a thread on the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit are still suggesting that folks give it a go.
“Don't know if it's exactly "hidden". But from the list you gave here: I bet you'd enjoy Guardians of the Galaxy”, commented user dunno0019.
“I 2nd this. Turned out to be better than I expected”, replied user SpectralRaiden.

“Good recommendation, was a good game. Way better then I thought it was going to be before I played it”, commented user Significant-Pace-380.
Surely this is all a bit unnecessary though, right? I mean, c’mon, this is a game based on a Marvel property, and the Guardians of the Galaxy received three critically lauded and financially successful films. Hasn’t everyone played this game by now?
You may be shocked to learn that, nope, that’s not actually the case.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy received strong reviews at release, but the quality of the game (and the fame of the IP) didn’t result in particularly strong sales.

Square Enix outright stated that the title “undershot” their “initial expectations”, despite the positive reviews.
In fact, this is likely why we’ve not heard too much from developers Eidos-Montréal since 2021, as it seems they’ve been relegated to a support studio following the financial performance of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
It’s a shame really, because its low sales figures is almost definitely partly to blame for the lack of single-player MCU titles we’ve seen since then– even though, by all accounts, the game absolutely slaps.
