PlayStation Plus latest free game is 'fascinatingly terrible', fans say

Is this PS Plus game a crime?

Regardless of the tier that you subscribe to, there are plenty of games to enjoy with Sony’s PlayStation Plus, hundreds even, if you subscribe to the top two tiers, Extra and Premium.

Earlier this month, Sony announced the three games that are included in PlayStation Plus Essential for May 2024, and now we know what’s coming to PS Plus Extra and Premium this month. Subscribers of the top two tiers can soon enjoy the likes of Cat Quest II, Watch Dogs, oh, and a small game called Red Dead Redemption 2.

Check out the Crime Boss: Rockay City trailer below!

Yet, other than the inclusion of Red Dead Redemption 2 and a few others, it’s probably fair to say that PS Plus Extra and Premium don't provide the best overall offerings this month. However, there’s one game in particular that hasn't excited subscribers all that much, and that game is Crime Boss: Rockay City.

Crime Boss: Rockay City is a game that looks like it's a cross between GTA V and Payday 2, or at least that’s what it wants to achieve. It also features a cast of iconic pop culture actors and personalities of yesteryear such as Chuck Norris, Michael Rooker, Michael Madsen, Kim Basinger, Danny Glover and even one-hit rapper sensation, Vanilla Ice.

Sadly, judging by the reception of Crime Boss: Rockay City and its lowly PS5 score of 43 on the aggregate website Metacritic, it seems that most of the game's budget was blown on the cast of actors rather than the quality of the game.

What’s more, gamers on Reddit aren't all that impressed with the inclusion of Crime Boss: Rockay City in PS Plus this month. “It’s fascinatingly terrible,” said TheButteredBiscuit.

“You know it's a bad month when Crime Boss: Rockay City of all things is cited as one of the standout games in the title of the article,” exclaimed Gaia093.

The reception doesn't fair much better when it comes to Metacritic user reviews with comments such as, “I’m not sure this game has any redeeming qualities,” from RowanBlack and, “This game is laughably bad,” from kman1014.

That being said, there are some very suspect 10 out of 10 user scores on Metacritic. Though to be fair, it’s all about opinions and if someone believes this game represents perfection, all the power to them.

Crime Boss: Rockay City is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
