You don’t have long to claim your free PlayStation Store credit before the chance is lost forever.
Sony’s reward scheme, PlayStation Stars, was first launched in September 2022 in Asia, before rolling out to other regions across the world. PS Stars rewards players with points that can be spent on free store credit, DLC or in-app collectables to proudly display on your PlayStation mobile profile.
Points would be earned by completing often very easy in-game tasks for select games or playing some of the latest PlayStation Plus inclusions. All in all, it was a solid reward system that was very beneficial if you put the time into it. I had claimed multiple vouchers during that time.
Sadly, in May 2025, Sony announced that it was controversially closing down PlayStation Stars, which understandably, resulted in more than a few furious gamers. Since that time, all campaigns have ended, with it fully closing its digital doors in November 2026.

This week, Sony has been sending out emails to those who enrolled on PlayStation Stars, warning them that points will soon expire, and once they’ve gone, they’ll be lost forever. The email I received read:
“Your PlayStation Stars Points are Expiring. You have X PlayStation Stars Points expiring on July 31, 2026. Thanks for being a PlayStation Stars member.”
Obviously, this email refers to the points I’ll be losing this month, but after that, I’ll go from a measly remaining 135 to zero. Other members may get similar emails later.
While this reminder is four months ahead of when PlayStation Stars is closing down for good, it’s a reminder for us all that if you have any points remaining on your account, you might want to spend them now before it’s too late.
With there being no PlayStation Stars campaigns, there’s no way to earn additional points. Right now, you can only claim £5/$5 PlayStation Store credit for 1,250 points or £10/$10 for 2,500 points. So, if you have enough to buy either, do so ASAP.
In September 2025, Sony announced a new reward scheme, but rather than being given points to buy digital rewards, players must earn specific trophies to buy unique physical rewards.
In theory, this is a fun idea. For example, if you earned the Platinum Trophies for Ghost of Tsushima or Ghost of Yotei, you could buy a reasonably priced pin badge inspired by that respective trophy. However, there were also rewards for buying exclusive t-shirts, as well as a lavish Ghost of Yotei jacket for $150.
At the time of writing, the new reward scheme has not offered anything other than Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yotei, but hopefully, we won't be waiting much longer to see what other new exclusive merchandise is offered for earning PlayStation trophies. We'll keep you posted if or when that information drops.
