PlayStation Plus is a decent subscription service, but its price is turning new and current users away.
Here’s how you can, hopefully, bag 25% off your next annual subscription, though.
Over on the PlayStation Plus subreddit, user ConversationOne9144 shared an important discovery.
Those seeking to subscribe to a 12-month subscription of PlayStation Plus can acquire the service at a discount, seemingly at random.

ConversationOne9144 got their membership with 25% off and challenged other PlayStation 5 owners to “try your luck.”
As it turns out, luck has nothing to do with it, as the comments quickly outlined.
From the handful of comments currently attached to the post, several stated that they’d also received discounts on their 12-month membership, and the trick is auto-renew.
Auto-renew is a horrendously cheeky feature that you should always keep turned off if you can, especially for PlayStation Plus.
Grand Theft Auto VI came under fire recently for including an auto-renew subscription in its new Ultimate Edition, which is just one of several problems people have with the $100 pre-order…

Back to PlayStation Plus, though. If you have auto-renew switched off, you’re more likely to get a discount when your subscription is about to expire, which is what happened for most of the commenters in the post above.
It’s basically PlayStation’s way of keeping you in the gauntlet, but if it’s doing so at a discounted rate, who are we to argue?
Remember, you’re merely more likely to get 25% off if you’ve got auto-renew switched off. It’s not a guaranteed discount by any means.
As we said before, you should ideally have auto-renew switched off anyway, as there’s nothing worse than forgetting your renewal date and suddenly finding your bank account to be a little lighter than it should be.
Discounts like this are more valuable than ever, as PlayStation Plus continues to skyrocket in price, much like the consoles you’re using it with.
Further price hikes are practically guaranteed, and to add insult to injury, the offering PlayStation Plus provides is pretty mid if you ask us.
The three free games you get every month are a mixed bag. You might get one solid title to add to your collection, whereas the rest are either co-op slop or games you wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot barge pole.
Even the PlayStation Plus Extra library is suffering, especially compared to Xbox Game Pass, which at least includes day-one first-party titles in its pricier subscription tiers.
Don’t even get us started on PlayStation Plus Premium… The PlayStation 3 deserves better, that’s all we’re going to say.
As it stands, PlayStation Plus could really do with an overhaul. Discounts like this at least make the price a little easier to stomach, but it’s still a far cry from the subscription you’d want for that kind of money.
