As pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI get underway, one user has discovered a workaround that allows them to pick up the game without costing them a penny.

With the news that Grand Theft Auto VI’s standard and ultimate editions are actually quite expensive, many players are doing whatever they can to snag a bargain.

And in this case, one Xbox user has discovered a way to pick up GTA VI without actually spending any of their own cash.

Thanks to Microsoft Rewards, Xbox user HugoWheynow was able to save up enough free store credit to be able to pre-order Grand Theft Auto VI without spending their own money.

Microsoft Rewards is a scheme that allows users to earn points for using different Microsoft services, such as Microsoft Edge, Bing search, and Xbox Game Pass.

For example, doing around a dozen searches on Bing, playing a game on Xbox Game Pass and using Edge for 15 minutes each day should net you with a bunch of points which you can redeem for Xbox store credit.

This store credit can then be used to buy things on the Xbox store, allowing you to pick up new games, DLC, or media at a reduced price.

HugeWheynow says that they used “98K” points to pre-order Grand Theft Auto VI. 98,000 points is equal to around a $100 gift card, which is enough to pick up the Ultimate Edition.

Xbox Users Can Regularly Rack Up Reward Points To Spend On New Games At The Store

If you regularly play on Xbox, it might be a good idea to check out how many Microsoft Reward points you currently have. In the United Kingdom, a £5 gift card costs 6,820 points to redeem, while a £25 gift card costs 34,095 points to redeem.

Therefore, to get the Standard Edition of Grand Theft Auto VI, you’ll need to earn 95,480 points through Microsoft Rewards. No easy feat, but if you really wanted to shave off a few quid, you can start today and rack up a load by November 19.

Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI went live last week, with Rockstar Games revealing the price, editions, and pre-load information to help you make an informed purchase decision.

The game will cost £69.99 / $79.99 for the Standard Edition, and £89.99 / $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition.

Pre-orders of either version will also grant a month of GTA+ and access to the Vintage Vice City Pack, which includes a bunch of exclusive cosmetics and vehicles for the story mode.

However, the game also landed in a spot of controversy after it was learned that boxed copies are being sold without discs, and will instead feature a digital code in the box that you can use to download and pre-load the game ahead of launch.

Grand Theft Auto VI will release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.
