The eternal struggle between the different console manufacturers became fairly tiresome, fairly quickly and it didn't take them too long to notice, with both PlayStation and Xbox distancing themselves from the "console wars" in favour of increased integration where it suited their business model.

Now, that's not to say that everything's rosy and the megacorporations are currently skipping through a field holding hands, but the lack of open hostility between the two has been a net positive for players on all sides.

Whether it's through formerly console exclusive franchises arriving on other consoles, or multiplayer servers that allow everyone to play together, the best future is undoubtedly looking like an integrated one.

As first reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, that cordial approach could be about to extend to first party peripherals. The Sony Inzone H9 is a premium gaming headset that released in 2022 for the PlayStation. According to renowned leaker billbil-kun, Sony will announce a new version of the headset at the same time as Gamescom's opening salvo, and it will be compatible with the Xbox Series S/X thanks to the 3.5mm jack for wired connections.

Leaked specs have confirmed that the headset is considerably lighter than the previous version, clocking in at just 260g, down from a previous high of 330g. There haven't been any noticeable improvements to the internal speaker unfortunately, with the latest model retaining the WH-1000XM6 hardware.

It also features a detachable noise-cancelling microphone if you just want to use them as headphones and support for new bluetooth LE audio, which should future proof you for some time to come yet.

The only drawback is that the new model will set you back a pretty penny, with the headset expected to cost $349.99/€349.99. Though PlayStation are not at Gamescom in an official capacity, they will be making some moves at the same time, so keep an eye out for further announcements in the coming days.
