PlayStation unveils gorgeous new consoles, expected to arrive soon

It’s always nice to get a dazzling new console especially when it shines so brightly and these new PlayStation 5 consoles are certainly eye-catching.

In October 2023, Sony announced a new slimmer PlayStation 5 console that is not only smaller in size, but it weighs a little less too. The volume of the revised console has decreased by 30% and its weight by 18% and 24% compared to previous models. Moreover, as with the previous models, you can buy one with or without a disc drive. However, unlike the previous model, the new version has the capabilities of a detachable disc drive. So if you bought the digital-only console, you can buy the disc drive later if needed.

One of the perks of the PlayStation 5 is buying new console covers, and Sony recently released three brand-new covers for the previous model of the PS5, namely ‘Volcanic Red’, ‘Cobalt Blue’ and ‘Sterling Silver’, collectively known as the 'Deep Earth Collection'. Other than the silver cover, the new blue and red covers are exclusive to PlayStation Direct. However, as shared in a tweet from Shinobi602, you will soon be able to buy the slimmer version of Sony’s console featuring the three aforementioned covers.

The new consoles were revealed during Sony’s CES 2024 event and each will come with matching DualSense controllers. No release dates have been announced at the time of writing, but considering that the three covers are already available for the previous PS5 models, I can’t imagine that we’ll be waiting very long.

It will be interesting to see much like the covers, whether or not any of the three new PS5 consoles will be exclusive to PlayStation Direct or readily available at most retailers. Only time will tell. That being said, we will of course keep you updated as soon as Sony breaks the release date for the new PlayStation 5 consoles.
