PlayStation 5 owners have been hit with a bizarre network error that’s making it impossible to play their games. What’s even stranger is that they're disappearing from some users’ libraries altogether.

Over the past 12 hours, more and more users have reported faults with their game library, as their consoles claim they have nothing downloaded and haven’t played anything recently.

If you needed an argument as to why digital-only gaming platforms are dangerous, look no further than this.

What’s Wrong With Your PlayStation 5?

Before you start power cycling your console over and over or ripping it apart for some internal fault, know that it’s entirely Sony’s fault.

According to the official PlayStation Network status report, there’s a massive problem with gaming and social, with the description warning users, “You might have difficulty launching games, apps or network features. We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

The problems apparently started at 8:30pm BST on 16 June - and at the time of writing, nothing has been fixed yet.

As you’d expect, the PlayStation Reddit is having a meltdown over the technical issues, like one post by Zestyclose-Pool-8037 that exclaimed, “My games are ALL GONE.” You can understand the panic as we’d be just as vexed to load up our consoles and have it tell us we don’t have any games anymore.

Even the official PlayStation mobile app is telling users there’s nothing in their libraries.

Is There A Fix You Can Do Yourself?

Unfortunately, no. As we said before, it’s a server issue not a hardware issue so you can reboot your console as many times as you’d like. If you’re affected, there’s unfortunately nothing you can do yourself.

All we can do is wait for PlayStation to solve the problem, and hopefully get everyone’s games back where they’re supposed to be.

This marks the umpteenth time the PlayStation Network has had an error in the past 12 months, and gamers have every right to be ticked off.

The rising cost of PlayStation Plus doesn’t help things either, especially since you can’t even play them right now as they’re digital-only.

If only we could go back to the good old days where all of your games were safely stored on a disc or cartridge. You could pop them into your console and play worry free, no internet or server connections needed.

Stay tuned for more updates on this ongoing PlayStation catastrophe. Hopefully the company throws affected users a gift card as a way of compensation.
