PlayStation free store credit trick gets you money back just for playing a demo

One of the latest ways to claim store credit on the PlayStation store can be exploited using a demo.

One of the latest ways to claim store credit on the PlayStation store can be exploited using a demo.

PlayStation Stars is your one-stop shop to claim a variety of neat digital collectibles and credit to be spent in the store, with your main source of point income coming from a variety of challenges.

Take a look at our Snog, Marry, Kill video with the cast of the Fallout TV show!

The majority of these “challenges” are relatively straightforward, often requiring the user to play one of several games for any amount of time before the points get added to your balance.

One of the latest challenges revolves around some of the most popular multiplayer games on the PlayStation platform, including Helldivers 2, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, My Hero: One’s Justice and Minecraft.

If you play any of these games you’ll receive a not-to-shabby 50 points added to your balance, which isn’t much at first but it all adds up over time so every little bit helps.

Now if you don’t own any of the above games and don’t fancy buying them don’t worry, as one user has discovered you can circumvent that pay wall with a game trial.

Reddit user _GLiTcH2_ shared the handy trick on the PlayStation Stars subreddit, saying they didn’t own any of the required games, but “remembered that Minecraft had a demo/trial so I downloaded it hoping it would work.”

Fortunately it does, as if you download the Minecraft trial for a few minutes it’ll count towards the challenge progression, happy days.

Whether this a mistake on Sony’s part or something that can be relied on going forward is another question, but for the time being it’s worth keeping in mind if any challenges feature games you don’t own, or can’t access through PlayStation Plus.
