So much choice, so little time

If you’re a PC gamer on a tight budget, there’s still plenty of fun to be had.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Steam is home to a wide array of free-to-play titles.

Certainly, that includes the obvious suspects like Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, PUBG Battlegrounds, and Apex Legends, but there are plenty more game that you may never have heard of, so I’d like to highlight 11 today.

Let’s kick off with one that’s dominating charts at the moment: Umamusume: Pretty Derby.

Created by Cygames, this one sees you race as a bunch of anime horse girls in what is part sports game, part life sim.

Look, I know it sounds weird but it’s getting a ton of love; you need look no further than the ‘Very Positive’ 93% reviews.

Vigil has also been well received, and is definitely one for the Five Nights At Freddy’s fans amongst you.

This one comes from Singularity Studios and is pitched as a “short narrative horror game that takes place in an unsettling underground facility”.

You’re not alone though, with an automaton stalking you when you blink or look away.

Those 97% ‘Positive’ reviews bode well.

The Wind and The Wisp is an interesting one; this is a 3D adventure game that centres around blowing into your microphone.

I’m imagining you’ll get a little out of breath playing it, but it looks like a really relaxing little adventure and, again, boasts great reviews.

Are you a lover of cats? How about 2D hand-drawn animation? Then download Kimchi: A Stars in the Trash Story.

Created by Valhalla Cats, this is a “bite-sized, lighthearted puzzle platformer” where you explore the world as Kimchi the kitten.

The great reviews theme continues as this game boasts a 100% ‘Very Positive’ score.

This Game Will End in 205 Clicks isn’t left behind with 98% ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews.

“What does a SUPERVILLAIN do, when he is forbidden from doing anything evil for the day?” asks the synopsis of this intriguing visual novel.

One review reads: “This game is so incredibly smart when it plays with it format, definitely a worthwhile of an hour of your time.”

It’s secured my interest.

Swing Into Zero-G is one I’ve been hearing a lot about.

Again, this one has great reviews and sees you parkour through space in multiplayer races.

If you enjoy retro games of yesteryear, BlockBlasters may be the one for you.

While it’s a new release, its 2D pixel aesthetic certainly feels like a blast from the past. Haha, blast … cause you blast blocks.

Anyway, it’s essentially a 2D platformer but you’ll have to use your gun to eradicate the foes standing in your way and guess what? You guessed it … ‘Very Positive’ reviews!

Bongo Cat isn’t quite as new, releasing a few months ago, but I want to highlight some of the recent big free hitters that may have passed you by.

Bongo Cat is somewhat of an idle game where Bongo will earn more hats the more that you type or click away doing your work or school projects.

It sounds basic but people love this one, with 97% ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews, plus a new 100-player multiplayer update recently dropped.

Supervive is a game for the battle royale fans.

Developed by Theorycraft Games, it seeds you team up in multi-squad teamfights where you’ll “unlock gear, theorycraft builds, and bring your gamebreaking loadout into every match”.

Or how about FragPunk from Bad Guitar Studio?

This one’s a 5v5 hero shooter where Shard Cards “break the rules of combat and ensure that no two rounds are ever the same”.

Let’s finish off with the very new Nakuma, a pixel art RPG that may appeal to Zelda fans.

From Vision Interactive, this one centres around you seeing off as many enemies as possible as you grind for gear and experience points.

That’s just a small offering of the many free games available, so go and have a browse.
