It’s every PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 owner’s favourite time of the month, because three free games just dropped (and one of them is even good).

Sony is on the cusp of completing a rather decent streak of free PlayStation games, as this month’s lineup of PlayStation Plus titles is, surprisingly, not bad.

I’ve been pretty negative about the service over the past year, and that’s almost entirely to do with the shoddy PlayStation Plus Essential titles they’ve been dropping.

Coupled with the recent PS Plus price increases, I started to wonder if having a PlayStation Plus Essential subscription was even worth it anymore… but thankfully, this month’s free titles are just as good as last month's.

August’s PlayStation Plus Essential titles, which should now all be available regardless of which timezone you’re in, are Lies of P, Day Z and My Hero One’s Justice 2.

Alright, so, let’s get the bad out of the way first; I’ve played far too much My Hero One’s Justice 2, so I feel pretty confident in telling you that it’s kind of rubbish. Potentially only worth it if you’re a fan of the anime and you have a buddy who will jump into some online matches with you.

Day Z is, apparently, improved drastically since it fully released back in 2018. If you played this one at launch and didn’t vibe with it, it may be time to give it another go.

And finally, of course, you got Lies of P.

If you’re a Bloodborne fan, I think Lies of P is legitimately the closest thing we’ve gotten to a Bloodborne 2 since. Ridiculously fun if you’re a fan of Soulslikes, and potentially fun even if you aren’t, considering they just added a new easy mode option with the latest patch.

Here’s hoping September’s PlayStation Plus Essential titles are just as good as August’s lineup.
