PlayStation gamers can play this new RPG on PS5 for free, and you don’t even need PS Plus.

It’s always handy being able to play a game for free, before deciding whether or not we want to part with our hard-earned cash. Think of them as test runs, if you will.

We’ve all been there before. We’ve waited months for a new release, just for it to suck, and our money has been wasted again. While not 100% safe proof, free playable demos and trials can drastically reduce the chances of that happening.Typically, at least on PlayStation, when we see a “trial”, it can often be related to a trial that is only accessible with Sony’s PS Plus Premium subscription tier. However, that is not the case here.

As brought to our attention by PlayStation Lifestyle, you can play a free trial for Konami’s new action RPG, released on 15 July 2025, Edens Zero.

“This is a 3D action role-playing game based on the space fantasy comic/anime Edens Zero by Hiro Mashima, creator of Fairy Tail and Rave Master,” reads the synopsis of the game.

“The player controls a diverse cast of characters as they embark on an epic adventure across different planets while battling powerful enemies!”

Unlike a typical demo, with most trials, your data will carry over into the full game, should you decide to make the purchase, and that is certainly the case with Edens Zero.

Judging by Metacritic, Edens Zero hasn't had the best of scores, with 64 from critics and 5.4 from users. However, it’s been reviewed far more favourably on PC Steam with a “Positive” rating.

“I've never watched Edens Zero nor know anything about it. I decided to try this game out of simple curiosity, and damn, I am having a blast,” wrote Rambley the Raccoon.

You may also be pleased to know that not only is the Edens Zero trial available on PlayStation 5, but also on Steam and Xbox Series X/S.
