It may not be the most groundbreaking arrival in recent memory, but PlayStation Plus has quietly added a new free game to its extra tier catalogue.
Perhaps we should invert ‘new’, as the game in question technically was already available as a PlayStation 4 title.
What’s now been added is a PlayStation 5 port which can be enjoyed natively on current-generation consoles, and it’s for the hilarious Hello Neighbor.
If you’re yet to play it, Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror game that first landed on PlayStation 4 back in 2018.

You shouldn’t get the wrong impression from the word ‘horror’, though, as Hello Neighbor is a horror of the family-friendly variety.
Players step into the shoes of Nicky Roth who notices some strange happenings at the home of his next-door neighbour Theodore Peterson.
Roth takes it upon himself to investigate, with players sneaking their way into the basement of Peterson’s home in a bid to uncover his secrets all without getting caught.

What’s excellent is that Peterson will learn from your various attempts so if he does catch you, you won’t be able to simply repeat a route you’ve done before.
Peterson may have put down traps along that route, or set up a security camera if you’ve visited an area more than once.
If you already are an avid player of Hello Neighbor, you’ll most definitely want to upgrade to the new PlayStation 5 version if you can.
It introduces some impressive visual upgrades with Hello Neighbor on PlayStation 5 operating at 60fps.
The port also introduces 4K and HDR support as well as denser environments and higher resolution textures, and improves lighting and shadows.
Hello Neighbor reviewed very poorly at launch, so it’s perhaps best to stay away from aggregate websites like MetaCritic for this one.
A number of patches and adjustments have been made over the years, and you can see how satisfying the title is today via its reviews on PC storefront Steam.
The game currently sits at ‘Very Positive’ with 83% of all players having a great experience even if there are still some bugs present.

“Hello Neighbor is a beautiful, stressful mess,” remarked one user, while another added, “This game is goofy. But that's what makes it a good game in my opinion. No need for fancy graphics, shooting, and multiplayer. Graphics fit the art style. It's a bit glitchy and buggy, but to me, that is what makes it a fun and funny game.”
Checking it out via PlayStation Plus’ extra tier catalogue won’t cost you a penny beyond the price of your subscription, so it’s perhaps a good way to try this divisive one out.
It’s readily available now.
