PlayStation Plus has gained a midweek treat for those who are subscribed to the premium tier.
After confusion as to whether they’d be available, free new-gen updates for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux have now landed on the priciest tier, as spotted by Reddit user kabirsingh84.
The new-gen updates first launched on consoles on October 29, but neither surfaced on PlayStation Plus with many wondering whether they were exclusive only to true owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux.
Thankfully, it looks as if the rollout was instead just running a tad behind schedule with premium users now able to jump into the updated new-gen versions of both games.

Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux were already included exclusively on the premium tier; it’s not as if the new-gen upgrades have bumped them up from extra.
The two FPS titles, developed by 4A Games, originally landed on the premium tier back in September under the title Metro Redux which bundles 2033 Redux and Last Light Redux together.

As for what you can expect from the new-gen upgrades, 4A Games has finally introduced native PS5 and PS5 Pro support.
Both games also now offer up to 4K resolution at 60fps, with PSSR allowing for upscaled 4K at 120fps.
Textures have been improved, plus developers have made use of the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers for a more immersive experience.
It’s slightly odd that Metro Redux is exclusive to the premium tier, which typically claims to offer a bonus ‘retro’ catalogue.
If you want PS1, PSP, PS2, and PS3 games, a premium subscription is perhaps the one for you.
If you just prefer PS4 and PS5 games, though, the extra tier is your best bet, or at least it was.
Metro 2033 first landed in 2010 on the PlayStation 4 with Last Light landing on the same console in 2013.
Why Metro Redux is reserved exclusively for the classics catalogue then, I don’t know.
