PlayStation Plus has unveiled a range of new perks for subscribers, and theyâre pretty diabolical, prompting immediate slating from users.
The seven new perks do appear to be available on all tiers of PlayStation Plus, but the offers are currently exclusive to the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, so it remains to be seen if other territories receive similar announcements.
All seven new free perks now available via PlayStation Plus
YouTube Premium three-month free trial
PlayStation Plus users in the UK, Germany, and France can now redeem a three-month trial of YouTube Premium, allowing you to watch videos ad-free and offline. The catch is that itâs only available to new customers and youâll be automatically billed if you donât cancel the trial following those three free months.
Nab two discounts on select PlayStation Direct purchases

Perhaps the best perk - and thatâs saying a lot - on this list is a new five percent discount at the PlayStation Store on console and accessories purchases, although itâs described as being a âtrial basisâ perk available until March 31, 2027. You cannot use the discount on digital games, virtual currency, subscription services, or pre-order products.
Advert
Users will also be able to save ÂŁ10 on select DualSense Wireless Controllers via PlayStation Direct, although the wording of âselectâ makes us think IP collaborations may not be included.
Finally, thereâs free express delivery on consoles if you buy an additional item, which feels like a poor offer. If youâre spending ÂŁ500-plus on a console, free express delivery should be offered as a given without the requirement of extra purchases.
Thereâs a new discount at Sony Electronics
PlayStation Plus users can additionally now save 10 percent when shopping via Sony Electronics, with the discount applying to various gaming products and Bluetooth speakers. This perk is only available until December 31 and itâs only select products, once again, that are included.
Redeem free movie credit on Sony Pictures Core
If you want free credit to spend on a streaming service very few people use, youâre in luck. PlayStation Plus users can unlock free credit on Sonyâs own streaming service, which features a constantly rotating catalogue of, surprise surprise, Sony films.
Get a discount on DAZN Ultimate
If you like boxing, youâre in luck. If you donât, tough. PlayStation Plus is now offering a 20 percent discount on 12-month subscriptions to DAZN Ultimate, which is, by all accounts, the âultimate boxing subscriptionâ. We couldnât say whether thatâs accurate or not.
The subscription includes 12-plus pay-per-view events, as well as 185-plus fights at no extra cost. This offer is valid until January 25, 2027 and is, again, for new subscribers only. Itâs set up for auto-renewal too, so be careful with that.
Thereâs a discount on Audible for book lovers
If books are more your thing, audiobooks specifically, then PlayStation Plus subscribers can now secure three months of Audible for ÂŁ0.99, providing access to a library of over 900,000 titles. You know the drill by now. Itâs only available to new customers and you will be automatically renewed onto a paid subscription if you donât cancel when the free trial draws to a close.
Relax and unwind with a subscription to Calm
Finally, PlayStation Plus users can now enjoy two months of Calm Premium with the app designed to improve sleep and relaxation with lessons, meditations, and light workouts. If you donât cancel the free trial before it ends, youâll be renewed onto a whopping one-year paid subscription, so thatâs another trap to look out for.

These âfreeâ perks are just tempting you to spend more money

All of these perks are designed to leave you more out of pocket, rather than actually save you money. The discounts invite purchases you may not have otherwise made, while the free trials are designed to hopefully result in permanent subscriptions.
Itâs for this reason that playStation Plus users have slated the latest offerings.
âHow is a free trial a perk?â said one Twitter/X user.
âThis is very poor. PlayStation is struggling to get back onside and just trying anything but not doing anything thatâs actually meaningful to players,â added another.
Someone commented: âYour greed is absurd.â
These perks do feel like somewhat of a trial, and it feels like theyâve already failed at the first hurdle.
