A number of PlayStation 5 users have reported being offered limited-time free subscriptions to PlayStation Plus.
Reddit user Longjumping_Sea7214 is one such example, having shared the surprise offer online.
“Enjoy seven days of PlayStation Plus Premium for free,” began the pop-up notice from PlayStation on the user’s PS5 console.
“Discover a huge range of PlayStation Plus benefits that give you more of what you love. Redeem the voucher code below by 5 July and enjoy seven days of PlayStation Plus Premium for free.

“This means seven days of online multiplayer, Game Trials for select titles, access to the Classics Catalogue and Game Catalogue, and more great perks.”
The offer seems to be aimed at those who haven’t previously taken out a PlayStation Plus subscription.
“I also got it today,” added another Reddit user, so this isn’t an isolated example.
This is the perfect way to try out PlayStation Plus if you haven’t already.
It may not seem like a very long trial, but you could complete several games in the space of a week if you focus on those with a short runtime.
Here are 10 PlayStation Plus games, for example, that you can complete in under 10 hours.
Unfortunately, there is one sneaky caveat to this seven day free offer.
Redeeming the code offered by PlayStation will trigger auto-renewal to turn on which is precarious considering that this is a free trial of PlayStation Plus’ priciest tier.
If you don’t want to continue your PlayStation Plus Premium membership past those free seven days, you’ll need to navigate to your console’s settings to turn auto-renewal off.
The Premium tier costs £14.99 / $19.99 a month, £43.99 / $54.99 for three months, or £119.99 / $159.99 a year, so you could end up accidentally paying quite the bill.
It’s perhaps no surprise that PlayStation Plus is attempting to lure in new subscribers. With prices having only just increased in May 2026, many users may have departed the service.
Unlike Xbox with Game Pass, Sony doesn’t appear to be in a rush to reverse the price hike.
Alongside raising the price, PlayStation Plus is also trialling a major change in how it delivers games to players on the Extra and Premium tiers.
Previously, a fresh batch of games would arrive on a single day on a monthly basis.
In the UK, USA, and Japan, PlayStation Plus is now experimenting with spreading game drops over the entirety of the month, copying the Xbox Game Pass model.
While some users say this will help them stay on top of the titles they do want to play, many feel disappointed by the trial, saying they feel worse off for it.
PlayStation Plus’ next update falls on 1 July when July’s Essential tier games are due to be announced.
