PlayStation drops free open-world game 6 times larger than Skyrim

This will be a time sinker

If you are torn on what to play this weekend but are in the mood to tackle an open-world game that eclipses Skyrim on pure size, then PlayStation has the exact freebie for you.

Earlier this week saw Sony announce the latest batch of free games which would be added to its PlayStation Plus library throughout August.

Alongside an epic soulslike and an anime-inspired fighter game, one epic multiplayer online survival game was also added and its sheer scale and abundant content will be enough to keep you occupied all throughout the brand-new month.

Day Z.

PlayStation's latest free game is absolutely massive

Following a five-year long early access period, Day Z was officially released in December 2018 and has gone on to become one of the best multiplayer survival games of all time.

Set in a fictional post-Soviet country, Day Z follows the survivors who must fight to survive amongst a population who have turned into violent infected.

Players must scavenge for supplies, such as water, food, weapons, and medicine, all whilst fighting infected and killing or cooperating with other players following the outbreak.

Now Day Z is free to play for Premium, Extra, and Essential PlayStation Plus members from 5 August onwards.

It is believed that the multiplayer survival title features a map six times larger than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim so, as somebody who has not yet played Day Z, I can only imagine its sheer scale.

Following the news of the brand-new PS Plus addition, fans took to r/PlayStationPlus to share their thoughts on Day Z being added.

“Wow, Day Z is actually very fun, especially if you’re on PS5,” one user shared.

Another user agreed and took the time to explain why Day Z is worth trying out.

“Day Z is a game that will play on your paranoia and anxiety,” their comment read.

“There will be times you can go hours without seeing someone but that doesn't mean anyone isn't around.

Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they haven't seen you.

You can just be running through the woods then you hear a loud gun shot and you’re instantly dead.

It's one of the best games of all time, the original mod is what got me into PC gaming.”

High praise indeed and luckily, you can find out if this praise is warranted by checking out Day Z for free as of next month.
