PlayStation drops surprise free download for all users, no strings attached

Days of Play is gifting us the goods

Yesterday, PlayStation’s annual Days of Play event got underway.

Currently in its seventh year, Days of Play is a celebration of all things PlayStation, granting console users access to various free offerings and limited-time deals.

One of those free offerings is what I’d like to highlight today.

To celebrate this year’s edition of the event, PlayStation users can now redeem an array of avatars that “commemorate some of the popular titles that will be offered through PlayStation Plus during Days of Play.”

Lara Croft, Sly Cooper, Diogo Jota, and Slimer are just a few familiar faces you’ll be able to nab avatars of.

This part is a tad confusing to stick with me.

To grab the avatars, you need to head on over to the PlayStation Plus hub on your PS5 or PS4.

That may suggest that you need a PlayStation Plus membership to redeem them but I assure you that’s not the case.

“These PlayStation Plus avatars are free for all PlayStation players to redeem,” reads the Days of Play website.

It sounds as if more avatars will soon be on the way if none of the figures featured so far are to your tastes.

PlayStation simply reassured fans to “stay tuned”. Oh we will.

As these avatars celebrate the latest PlayStation Plus additions, let me fill you in on what those are.

AEW Fight Forever is joining the essentials tier.

On 4 June, the essential tier will gain SpongeBob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake, AEW Fight Forever and Streets of Rage 4 with May’s EA Sports FC 24 sticking around until 18 June.

From 3 June, all PlayStation Plus users can also download an exclusive Roblox pack which includes an avatar for Felix Freezebeard the Yeti.

Moving onto the extra tier, that’s gaining Dredge today, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 on 31 May, Cricket 24 on 5 June and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition on 7 June.

The premium tier is gaining the most titles.

On 6 June, PS VR2 titles Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, Walkabout Mini Golf, Synth Riders, Before Your Eyes, and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapters 1 & 2 will become available.

This is alongside PS2 titles Tomb Raider Legend, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus on 11 June.

As of today, a new premium free trial of WWE 2K24 is also available.

The great news is that further PlayStation Plus additions are scheduled to drop in the coming weeks to thicken out this supersized month.
