PlayStation has reportedly been outselling Xbox in the console market five-to-one, spelling bad news for Microsoft’s hardware.

In all honesty Xbox hasn’t been this much in the gutter since the Xbox One days, as not only has it given up multiple exclusives to PlayStation and PC, it recently shut down several game studios, sparking outrage from fans.

The next game on Xbox’s release schedule is Senua's Saga: Hellblade II which has little to no marketing in the run up to its release

Things were looking quite promising for a time after it acquired Bethesda, not long followed by Activision-Blizzard, but unfortunately the company is still failing to meet expectations set by fans.

Now it seems it's failing to meet economic expectations too, as it was recently reported by VGC that PlayStation 5 consoles are being sold five times more than the Xbox Series X/S.

Sony recently reported 4.5 million PS5 consoles were sold across the last three months, bringing the grand total up to 59.3 million.

Xbox doesn’t tend to discuss the amount of units it sold, though recent reports say hardware sales have dropped exponentially, no doubt helped by the lack of first-party games.

The only silver-lining is Xbox Game Pass, which is regularly updated with new titles including many Day One releases.

At this moment in time Xbox has a difficult choice ahead of it, as many fans are gunning for more first-party titles like Gears Of War and Halo, but it seems clear the company is more interested in boosting its third-party offering.

Leakers recently claimed that almost all first-party Xbox IPs will find their way onto PlayStation consoles eventually.

The future of Xbox seems uncertain at the time of writing, though it’s starting to look like the company won’t survive unless it mixes up its business strategy.
