Xbox Series X/S users who play a lot of different games have been begging for one feature over the years, and it looks like Xbox has finally heard their cries.
One of the coolest features of the Xbox Series X/S is the Quick Resume, a feature which allows you to turn off your console and resume from the same point later on.
It’s different from PlayStation 5’s Rest Mode, which only allows you to keep one game on the go at any one time. Quick Resume allows you to save your progress on multiple games, and also continues working even if you unplug the console.
Quick Resume has been a feature on the console since launch, but one common complaint kept cropping up: the fact that it just straight-up broke some games.

For any games that require a persistent internet connection, for example, games that were launched with Quick Resume would typically boot you back to the menu and give you a “Connection Lost” screen.

If you’re playing Elden Ring, for example, you’d be booted back to the menu and forced into Offline Mode until the game could establish an active internet connection. It would mean you’d either have to wait for a while, or just reboot the game entirely.
Meanwhile, in other games it would bring problems with saving or earning achievements, leading to frustration from players.
Thankfully, a new system update for Xbox Series X/S consoles has changed this to make it more frustration-free for players.
A new system setting now allows you to disable Quick Resume for any game you’re playing, where it will apply to that game, and that game only.
With the setting active, instead of jumping back into the place where you left it, you’ll instead boot the game up as if it was freshly launched.
To change your Quick Resume setting for any game, find the game icon on your Xbox dashboard and then press the Start button. Navigate down to Manage Quick Resume, where you’ll be taken to a new menu which allows you to select “Disable Quick Resume”.
It seems like the addition has been received quite positively by Xbox gamers, with many saying the feature is great for those games that tend to break with Quick Resume.
“Finally, cant believe its true,” reads one comment on the Xbox Reddit page.
“Small but welcome feature. Most games don't quick resume properly, I end up have to quit the app and re-load each time,” reads another comment.
“This is huge,” reads a third comment. “Helldivers 2 would glitch out and wouldn't give you your daily personal order unless you force quit the game every time you launch it bc of quick resume. R6 would always try to boot up whatever you were doing before and have to reset itself anyways. When I found this feature the other day I was so relieved.”
If you’d like to check out the feature now, you can download the update on your Xbox Series X/S console.
