Xbox suffers major outage as users left without game and account access, Minecraft down

Xbox has confirmed that it's currently experiencing what's been officially deemed a "major outage" affecting Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Xbox 360 systems, and more - including web services and cloud gaming.

The company's engineers have noted via Xbox's status hub that they're aware of the problem and a fix will be applied, although no timeline has been provided on precisely when gamers can expect that fix to rectify the current situation. A solution in all cases is listing as "pending".

The outage is preventing users from accessing their Xbox accounts and other live services, preventing many games from functioning.

Under 'Accounts and Profile', it's specified that account sign-in and profile creation are completely down, meaning Xbox users cannot sign into their accounts right now or create new profiles.

"You may not be able to sign-in to your XBOX profile, may be disconnected while signed in, or have other related problems. Features that require sign-in like most games, apps and social activity won't be available," reads a note issued by Xbox.

Minecraft is one of the games affected by the outage, with the title's launcher currently unable to function

Under 'Games and Gaming', sign ins for Minecraft for Android are listed as also being affected, with the attached note reading, "You may not be able to sign-in to your XBOX profile, may be disconnected while signed in, or have other related problems. Features that require sign-in like most games, apps and social activity won't be available."

Already, Xbox users are sharing their experiences and log-in difficulties on sites like Reddit.

"Can't launch a game on PC Game Pass, logged out of the Xbox App, now I can't log in. So much for a little gaming before work," wrote user acmstw.

"Me too, can't sign into my Xbox account as well as Minecraft launcher," added Hot_Pen_8497.

User JodouKast commented, "Yep, tried just getting my 15 mins of game time for daily Game Pass points and can't even launch a PC GPU game. This needs more accountability moving forward because if everyone wants to push all digital, there needs to be consequences for companies when licensed access is inhibited," while Electronic_Motor_296 wrote, "Man I uninstalled my Xbox app like 10 times probably I should’ve just checked earlier."

On DownDetector, it's clear to see just how many users have began reporting issues.

Many Xbox services do remain live and working without issue, including online safety features, friend and social activity, sharing and broadcasting, devices and networking, remote play, and support services.

Of course, these services become somewhat redundant if users cannot even log into their accounts.

It's nigh impossible to say how long the outage will last for. Previous outages have been rectified in as little as one to two hours, with Xbox's worst prior outages have exceeded over 15-hours of downtime. We're certainly hoping this new issue is on the shorter end of the spectrum.
