It appears that Xbox may have just teased Project Helix right under our noses.
When it comes to reveals of future hardware, Xbox is no stranger to cryptic teases and hidden first looks.
You only need to remember back to the infamous hidden Xbox Series S that was seen on Phil Spencer’s bookshelf back in summer 2020, a whole five months before the console was due to be released.
With the next-gen Xbox—codenamed Project Helix—allegedly coming in 2027 or 2028, it stands to reason that teases for the console may be hidden right under our noses right now.

And that’s what fans believe this latest post from Hideo Kojima seems to be pointing at.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Kojima recently met with Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma and Chief Content Officer Matt Booty at Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington.
Posing for a photo with Sharma and Booty, Kojima is seen holding a mysterious black box labelled “Xbox for Kojima”.
Fans have interpreted this as a devkit for Project Helix, with one being given to Kojima so his studio, Kojima Productions, can work on porting efforts of its games to the next-gen Xbox.
Kojima Productions is currently working on OD, a game published by Xbox Game Studios, so it makes sense why he may be getting access to a dev kit now.
However, this goes against what Microsoft said at GDC 2026, which stated that alpha versions of Project Helix will be sent to developers in 2027. So it still seems a little early for Project Helix devkits to be handed out right now.
“We’re continuing to push innovation for our next 25 years with our team hard at work on our next-generation first-party console: Project Helix is designed to play your Xbox console and PC games, delivering leading performance and ushering in the next generation of console gaming,” said Microsoft’s Jason Ronald, vice president of Next Generation.

“As part of our multi-year partnership with AMD, we are shaping the future of rendering and simulation. Project Helix is powered by a custom AMD SoC and co-designed for the next generation of DirectX and FSR to unlock what comes next.
“It delivers an order of magnitude leap in ray tracing performance and capability, integrates intelligence directly into the graphics and compute pipeline, and drives meaningful gains in efficiency, scale, and visual ambition. The result is more realistic, immersive, and dynamic worlds for players.
“I’m excited to share we plan to ship alpha versions of the hardware to developers beginning in 2027.”
So, it's probably not a devkit, sorry folks.
That also means The Elder Scrolls VI and The Witcher IV probably haven't got kits to test on either yet.
That does leave the question of what exactly Kojima is holding in his hands there. It could be a custom controller or Xbox console with Kojima branding, or something else entirely.
Perhaps the fact that we’re speculating on this at all is playing into the Microsoft marketing playbook.
