Starfield's most important mod just landed, available to download now

Starfield's most important mod has just become available: the script extender.

It didn’t take Starfield’s modding community long to spring into action. The game hasn’t even left early access and yet, the most important mod you’ll need has already arrived.

I say it hasn’t left early access, but it will as of tomorrow. Starfield’s 6 September release day is almost here so I’m imagining that plenty more mods are on the way. The game’s received mixed impressions from reviewers and players alike. Many have called it a slow burn, but I personally clicked with it right away. In our review, I wrote, “Every now and then, a new game comes along that changes our perception of what the industry is capable of. Starfield is that game. This is beyond what we’ve come to know an open-world to be. Bethesda has created a universe that, despite its vast scale, maintains interest and an impressive attention to detail throughout.”

Take a look at our video review of Starfield below.

If you are someone who’s likely to end up modding Starfield, and I’m guessing that’s the case if you’re here, you’re going to want to grab this script extender. As reported by PC Gamer, the Starfield Script Extender (SFSE) has arrived. Created by Ian Patterson and Stephen Abel, the must-have mod is going to prove to be a handy foundation for when you inevitably start adding further mods down the line.

Before long, modders will be creating new planets, new missions … and dare I say it, maybe even seamless travel? I’ve seen a mod that makes your flashlight project Phil Spencer’s face. Not quite the same. As PC Gamer points out though, Skyrim’s script extender is the third all-time most popular mod, so you can see why Patterson and Abel were so keen to get it out and live following the early access period.

You can currently pick from over 100 mods, with that number growing by the day. I can’t wait until the cursed options start rolling in.
