With the Fallout series back in the spotlight this year following its hit Amazon Prime TV adaptation, it is no wonder that fans are calling out for more.

That is why thousands were sad to learn that a would-be version of Fallout 3 was cancelled way back in 2003.

Not sure which entry to start with? We have you covered in the extensive guide below!

Codenamed Van Buren and worked on by Black Isle after the success of Fallout and Fallout 2, the project was set to be a thrilling sequel set in the American southwest and tell the story of a maniacal scientist who wished to use abandoned superweapons to eradicate all forms of mutant life.

With Van Buren seemingly being scrapped due to financial issues, it never saw the light of day. Well, that is until now.

Courtesy of a hugely ambitious project titled Fallout Yesterday, fans can now experience Van Buren as a total conversion mod for Fallout 2.

As a result, Fallout 2 will now feature 30 new quests, 100 weapons and items, improvements to the party management system, new craftables, random encounters and overall bug fixes. This is all with the aim to recreate what we have learned about the Van Buren project over the years.

The free-to-download mod also includes 100+ new traits and perks, multiple vehicles, new music tracks and even a starvation and dehydration system for those who wish to play on harder difficulties.

Although we will never know how close this mod is to the original project, it is still extra content for Fallout fans and it will be the perfect way to spend time whilst waiting for Fallout 5.

In related news, one Fallout creator has recently shared a chilling vault theory which will change the way you view the entire series.
