Fallout 4's free new-gen update has broken the game's most crucial mod

That's it, time to head back into the Vault because the real world is broken

For the love of all that is holy, why can’t we have nice things?!

We’ve entered a new era of Fallout domination, in which new and returning players are passionately heading back into the dangers of the Wasteland thanks to Amazon’s Fallout.

It should be running so smoothly – unless you’re being chased by a Yao guai – but instead it’s proving to be anything but.

Not only are some Fallout 4 players discovering that the new-gen update is unplayable for them, but now an extremely important mod isn’t working anymore. What happened?

Bethesda. That’s what happened.

Let's lighten the mood with a round of snog, marry, irradiate with the Fallout cast!

The ‘Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE)’ has been designed to “expand the scripting capabilities of Fallout 4”.

The beauty of this download is that it does this “without modifying the executable files on disk”, which means there’s no nasty ramifications from using it.

Sadly, the wrecking ball that is the update has come in to destroy that safe harbour modders have been so carefully clinging to.

“The 2024-04-25 Fallout 4 update (1.10.980 and later) has broken F4SE and the rest of the native code modding scene similarly to Skyrim's ‘Anniversary Edition’ patch,” a post on the F4SE NexusMods page reads.

“I am working on an update and cannot currently offer a timeline for its availability, nor whether there will be any critical technical issues that would block an update. If not obvious already, this one is going to take much longer than normal.”

Temporary solutions are being found, but they’re not ideal or simple for the casual modder to engage with.

Having already suffered Fallout: London delays because of this update, fans are wondering what else will be snatched away from us at the last minute.

Let’s all just take a deep breath, bandage our wounds, and try to remember it’ll all be worth it in the end.
