Fallout 4's Free Festive Overhaul, Perfect for Christmas

The most wonderful mod!

Fallout 4 gets the most wonderful mod that perfectly sets the tone for Christmas.

Right now, there’s probably no better time to be a fan of Bethesda’s ever-popular post-apocalyptic RPG series. We not only have the video games to enjoy, but also the second season of the Amazon Prime video series that takes us to the iconic location of New Vegas.

The Fallout titles before Bethesda’s acquisition are easily accessible on PC. All Fallout games from the third numbered entry are available to play on most modern consoles, and even the once doomed MMORPG, Fallout 76, is knocking it out of the park recently.

I’ve not had the chance to watch episode one of Fallout season two yet, as I’m catching up with season one (I’m on the last episode at the time of writing), but if you don't have much time on your hands, you can check out our recap here.

However, as much as I enjoy watching the live-action series, for me, at least, the most fun is to be had with the video game offerings.

Perhaps the best of the bunch is Fallout 4, which was originally released in 2015 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, before receiving its long-awaited free new-gen update in 2024.

Arguably, the best experience with Fallout 4 is on PC, thanks to its glorious wealth of mods. Don’t get me wrong, mods are available on the Xbox versions, and to a lesser scale on PlayStation, but nothing to the extent as on PC.

It’s a Perfect Fallout 4 Christmas Mod

So with Christmas becoming ever nearer, if you want something extra to get into the festive spirit, then Snow Now Overwhelms Winter might just be your cup of Eggnog.

The mod in question is created by DoubleYou and is available to download for free via Nexusmods.

“Snow Now Overwhelms Winter adds deep snow to the Wasteland, complete with deep footprints and snowy weather,” reads the description of the mod.

Overall, Snow Now Overwhelms Winter adds more than 22,000 retextured models, snow-covered overlays covering more than 3,000 objects.

It even adds small immersion details such as NPCs leaving footprints in the snow and much more.

Sadly, as is the case with most mods, ‘Snow Now Overwhelms Winter’ is a PC deal only.

For the rest of us, we can play Fallout 4 as intended on PlayStation and Xbox, as well as Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
