The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a game Nintendo probably should remake, but probably won’t. Fortunately the fan-made Unreal Engine 5 version is doing the job.
I feel like I should make it clear that I don’t want Nintendo to remake Ocarina of Time. The original still holds up and for better visuals the Nintendo 3DS version is more than enough.
That said, I can't deny that the Unreal Engine 5 version CryZENx has been working on isn’t gorgeous. It gets better and better with each update.
The latest update adds a new playable demo for those who’ve been keeping up with the remake’s progress. This time you’ll enter Jabu Jabu’s belly, during the part of the story where Link is retrieving the three Spiritual Stones to unlock the Temple of Time. It’s free-to-play and can be found on CryZENx’s Patreon.

You’ll also find the previous demos for areas like Dodongo’s Cavern, Lake Hylia and Sacred Forest Meadow, but these will require a subscription to the Patreon.

It’s quite risky to do this as CD Projekt Red recently shut down a fan-made VR mod for Cyberpunk 2077 because it was locked behind a Patreon. Nintendo is much more protective of its IPs so I’m surprised the company has allowed this fan-made project to continue for as long as it has. That said, the Patreon is very cheap, and it also unlocks the assets created for the remake in Unreal Engine 5.
Progress is slowly ticking along and it’s going to be a long time before it’s complete, if it’s completed at all. If that day ever comes though we already know it’ll be breathtaking.
The Legend Of Zelda’s 40th Anniversary In 2026; What’s Coming?
This year marks 40 years since the release of The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System, and as you’d expect fans are gearing up for something that celebrates the series’ colossal success.
The live-action Legend of Zelda film drops next year but we’ll likely see a trailer before the end of 2026, which leaves the possibility of a new game announcement or a remaster we’ve been waiting years for.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker are two games fans have wanted on the Nintendo Switch for ages, and with the 40th anniversary coming up now would be as good of a time as any to finally drop them. Fingers-crossed.
