Fortnite V-bucks are about to get more expensive, to ‘help the devs pay the bills’.

According to a recent blog post, “the cost of running Fortnite has gone up a lot”, so the players have to pay the price, quite literally. Of course, Fortnite is free-to-play, but if you want snazzy cosmetics and battle passes, you’ll need the in-game currency - V-Bucks.

A few months ago, Fortnite announced that players could purchase the ‘exact amount’ of V-Bucks they wanted, a change that was celebrated by fans. Now, it looks like the good news is coming to an end.

Starting 19 March 2026, here are the changes you need to know.

  • The $8.99 pack will provide players with 800 V-Bucks instead of 1,000.
  • The $22.99 pack will provide 2,400 V-Bucks (previously 2,800 V-Bucks)
  • The $36.99 pack will provide 4,500 V-Bucks (previously 5,000 V-Bucks).
  • The $89.99 pack now provides 12,500 V-Bucks (previously 13,500 V-Bucks).
  • Lastly, the price of the Exact Amount pack has also been increased from $0.50 for 50 V-Bucks to $0.99 for 50 V-Bucks.

You might think this is the end of the world, and it's not great. But we've got some handy tips for you to same a little bit of cash, in the wake of this bad news.

Here’s why Fortnite V Bucks Price Hike Isn’t All Bad News

You need an Epic Account to play Fortnite, so the fact you can earn 20% back in Epic Rewards on purchases in Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League is great news.

To do this, you'll need to make the purchase via the Epic Games Store or Epic’s payment system across PC, iOS, Android, and web. You can use that credit in Fortnite, or other Epic games, to save on your purchases.

The V-Bucks grant in Fortnite Crew will change from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks. Fortnite Crew subscribers will receive an email with the timing and other details of this update in their region.

If you don't have Fortnite Crew, it might actually save you money. Recently, we reported that Xbox has launched an easy way to claim 1,000 free V-Bucks for Fortnite per month.

Despite Xbox Game Pass upping the prices of certain subscription tiers in November, it introduced a new benefit with all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions.

From 18 November, Fortnite Crew will be included as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

With Fortnite Crew, you can access the Battle Pass, OG Pass, LEGO Pass and Music Pass, and you also get special items and 1,000 V-Bucks every single month.

Not bad considering Fortnite Crew costs £9.99 a month, and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription costs £22.99.
