Fortnite players have had V-Bucks wrongfully removed from their accounts after Epic Games accidentally targeted innocents following a glitch.
This all concerns the game’s collaboration with Dumb Ways to Die.
Some Fortnite players were claiming Dumb Ways to Die on iOS for free via the Epic Games Store and then logging into Fortnite to claim a backbling and emote related to the game, also for free.

They’d then hop over to an Android device and claim Dumb Ways to Die again.
Logging into Fortnite following this would award users with 800 free V-Bucks given that the emote and backbling were already in their accounts.
As you might’ve guessed, this wasn’t part of the plan on Epic Games’ part and in recent days, the company has taken to removing the wrongly gifted 800 V-Bucks.
The problem is that V-Bucks are also being deducted from the coffers of innocent players.

Not Everyone Purposefully Activated The Glitch
As shared by popular Fortnite fan account HYPEX on Twitter/X, players who downloaded the game with good intention have been caught up in the mess.
If you previously purchased Dumb Ways to Die but then recently redeemed it for free on an alternative platform, you may also find that you’re 800 V-Bucks lighter, even though you didn’t complete the glitch.
V-Bucks aren’t cheap. No one wrongfully wants to be left out of pocket, so Fortnite players are trying to get their voices heard.
“I bought the DWTD bundle in the shop and claimed the free game and I lost 800 V-Bucks too,” said one player.
“Yikes, that’s a messy situation,” added another.
“Perhaps they should take the loss and just let whoever had the V-Bucks keep it? It was their mistake,” one tweet read, and I’m inclined to think that’ll be a popular way of thinking.
FortniteStatus first spoke out about the glitch on 16 January.
“We've temporarily disabled the Dumb Ways To Die Fortnite item gift bundle to prevent an issue with players in Fortnite receiving duplicate cosmetics and V-Bucks,” a tweet said.
“The bundle will be available again on January 22nd at 11am ET. Fortnite players who redeemed multiple free copies and incorrectly received 800 V-Bucks will have the V-Bucks removed in the coming days.”
No further comment has been made, so it remains uncertain what’ll happen to those who have been caught up in this mess by accident.
Hopefully, a resolution is announced.
