This Zelda: Ocarina of Time 8K Unreal Engine 5 Remake Is a Sight to Behold

Can we just have an official Ocarina of Time remake, please?

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been given a fresh coat of paint, thanks to this 8K Unreal Engine 5 remake. I have a feeling this one might turn out to be controversial!

As reflected by its 99 score on the aggregate website Metacritic, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time. Today, despite showing its age (and understandable so), it’s still an absolute blast to play.

That being said, given the fact that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was originally released in 1998 on the Nintendo 64 (and the 3DS 2011 remake), I think it’s fair to say that after nearly three decades, some fans would love to see an Unreal Engine 5 take on the game.

This 8K Unreal Engine 5 Ocarina of Time Remake Is Stunning!

While there doesn't seem to be an official remake on the cards from Nintendo anytime soon, talented indie game designer CryZENx has taken matters into their own hands. The remake in question was shared on the YouTube channel Digital Dreams.

How to Play The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 8K

If you want to get a 60FPS download link to the game, consider supporting CryZENx on Patreon! I can't even begin to imagine how time-consuming this was to learn and create, so they definitely deserve a bonus.

Of course, this fan-made remake is running on a beast of a gaming PC, certainly beyond the capabilities of my little laptop. The footage shared on Digital Dreams is powered by an NVIDIA RTX 5090 and an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

If Nintendo ever decided to create its own remake of Ocarina of Time, I doubt it would use the Unreal Engine 5, but if it were to happen, perhaps this video games us a decent inkling of how good it might look.

Until then, all we can do is dream of the day that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time gets a remake on the Nintendo Switch 2. At this point, I'd even settle for a port. We’ll have our fingers crossed.

If you want to play Ocarina of Time today, you have several options. For starters, the classic way with the Nintendo 64 or the GameCube. There’s also a fantastic 3DS remaster from 2011, and an N64 emulation is accessible with a Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.

It was also purchasable on the Nintendo Wii U shop until that digital store was closed down in March 2023. Thankfully, the Wii U version remains playable for those who purchased it.
