Zelda Ocarina of Time remake gets sneaky update as fresh look draws near

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches later this year, but we still don’t have an exact release date.

That could be about to change however, as what’s being described is the most meaningful update for the game since its initial teaser suggests a fresh look is on the way.

Fans have been discussing what kind of remake they’re hoping to see from Nintendo this time around, as a game as legendary as Ocarina of Time deserves nothing but the best.

A new age-rating for the game from Korea suggests we are indeed getting that faithful remake treatment, as it was rated 12+ (reported by Minimap)

This means a few things. For starters it means the game’s contents should hopefully remain true to the original, as many were wondering if the Great Fairy designs were going to be tweaked for the remake, or hints of blood will be removed entirely.

However, age-ratings often signify plans for an upcoming reveal, and with the game’s release date speculated to coincide with the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, Nintendo is running out of time to show the game off.

What will be featured on the Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary Nintendo Direct

A standard trailer dropped on YouTube would suffice for a gameplay reveal, but that’s not exactly Nintendo’s style.

Besides, 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, and Nintendo is yet to really hand over its flowers.

Given the magnitude of the upcoming remake and the wider anniversary, we’re expecting a Nintendo Direct specifically targeted at upcoming Zelda news.

Gameplay for the Ocarina of Time remake will obviously be there, and we’ll likely get the release date along with it. It’ll be interesting to see how close the launch date will be to GTA VI.

We’ll also likely get an official look at the leaked Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. A Zelda 40th anniversary console and Pro Controller leaked recently and Nintendo still hasn’t acknowledged them, which suggests they’re being saved for this Direct.

Finally, perhaps a teaser trailer for the live-action Legend of Zelda film could be shown off too. It won’t be out until 2027, and will be the late Jurassic Park star Sam Neil’s final role.

The above are the big three announcements we’re expecting, but that’s not to say Nintendo can’t surprise us with some other goodies.

Some new Amiibo could be a possibility, especially if the Ocarina of Time remake has any functionality with them, but for Nintendo Switch 2 fans specifically, some more Zelda games on Nintendo Switch Online wouldn’t go amiss. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess would be solid, but the GameCube port of Ocarina of Time would be pretty cool too, as it includes the official Master Mode.

So, keep your eyes peeled for a Nintendo Direct announcement. Now that GTA VI’s Netflix Extended Look is out of the way, it’s prime time to start showcasing the next big reveals.
