Nintendo Switch fans furious over quiet cancellation

A real shame

A cancelled physical edition of a Nintendo Switch and PlayStation game has caused outrage amongst fans.

For those who still believe in the value of physical media for longevity and preservation, it’s always sad when a game doesn’t get a physical version or is supposed to have one before it's cancelled.

For something a little less doom and gloom check out the adorable trailer for Astro Bot below

That’s unfortunately the case for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation game Omori, which has had its physical release in Europe cancelled due to difficulties localising it.

If you’ve not heard of Amori before, it’s a classic RPG but with a horror twist. Its official description reads “Explore a strange world full of colorful friends and foes. Navigate through the vibrant and the mundane in order to uncover a forgotten past. When the time comes, the path you’ve chosen will determine your fate... and perhaps the fate of others as well.”

You can still buy the game on the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation store, but if you live in Europe and have been waiting for the physical version I’m afraid you’re out of luck.

Developer Meridiem Games made the announcement on Twitter, saying: "We regret to inform you that the physical editions of Omori for PS4 and SWITCH have been cancelled by the development team, due to technical problems related to the multilingual European localization. This news saddens us as much as it does you."

Fans were, as you’d imagine, disappointed by the news but at least the game is still available to the majority, it’s just the collectors that have suffered this time around.

If you haven’t played Omori but love a good RPG or horror game, definitely give it a go, and then maybe you can also be disappointed to not have a physical copy on your shelf.
