Nintendo Switch 2 users reporting 1 major issue with their console

Kinda funny that overheating leads to freezing...

Various reports are hitting the internet of Nintendo Switch 2 owners running into the same specific technical issue, leading to their consoles overheating and then locking up when playing certain games.

As outlined in a recent report by Nintendo Soup, Twitter is currently inundated by posts from Nintendo Switch 2 users in Japan who are running into the same issue with their brand new Nintendo consoles.

For whatever reason, it seems that certain games are causing Nintendo Switch 2s to overheat and then subsequently freeze the console entirely.

As Nintendo Soup notes, said overheating issues are affecting Nintendo Switch 2-specific games such as Yakuza 0 and Cyberpunk 2077, as well as ports of Nintendo Switch games like Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, Splatoon 2, and Splatoon 3.

Many have theorised that this may have something to do with the Japan-exclusive Nintendo Switch 2s, as there could be some kind of manufacturing error or defect that is only present in those versions of the console.

In case you were unaware, a cheaper version of the Nintendo Switch 2 launched exclusively in Japan. This model of the console only supports Japanese language options and costs roughly £100 less than the multi-language version of the console that everyone else in the world got.

However, it doesn’t seem that this issue is exclusive to the Japan-exclusive version of the console.

That’s because users outside of Japan have been reporting running into the same problem, although it does seem that the issue is far more prevalent in Japan. Several reviewers also stated that the Nintendo Switch 2 did seem warm when touched, regardless of whether it was used docked or undocked.

It’s tough to say how widespread the issue is as of writing, but a certain number of units being defective is to be expected. It sucks for those affected, of course, but it would be weird if every single Nintendo Switch 2 ended up being perfect.

We’ll have to wait for a month or two to find out exactly how many users are running into this problem to say for certain whether or not this is a big deal.
