The Legend of Zelda fans can now enjoy looking at this jaw-dropping remake of Majora’s Mask.
Now 25 years old, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is one of the most fascinating games in the series to date. It’s pretty much unlike any other Zelda game, and it had an amazing story to boot.
Although Majora’s Mask (along with its pretty-much-perfect predecessor, Ocarina of Time) received a remake for the 3DS, Zelda fans will always wonder what a remake that takes advantage of the most powerful modern hardware could achieve.
YouTuber Benoit Bourgerie has now shared a video of a homemade Majora’s Mask remake done in Unreal Engine 5.

The four-minute video recreates Clock Town and Termina Field, two iconic locations any fan of the game will remember quite vividly. And yes, you can also see the moon in the video.
What makes this video particularly interesting is it doesn’t have that uncanny ‘shine’ effect to it that a lot of Unreal Engine remakes of stylised games contain.

It actually adopts an art style that I would say is halfway between the original cartoonish look, and Breath of the Wild’s “painterly” feel. I think that makes it quite interesting to look at, and I certainly wouldn’t complain if this is what a real Majora’s Mask remake ended up looking like.
According to Benoit Bourgerie, this project took over a year to make. So if you are a fan of it, be sure to show them some appreciation. It’s not a playable demo or anything, but a good proof of concept for what a Majora’s Mask remake could look like on the Nintendo Switch 2.
The Majora’s Mask remake joins dozens of other games that have been remade using Unreal Engine 5, including the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time short film made in the style of Studio Ghibli, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Minecraft.
