Cyberpunk 2077 is, in my opinion, a near perfect game - and I never thought I’d say that when it first launched.
CD Projekt RED has more than just delivered on its original promise. Night City is an incredibly immersive locale that continues to delight and surprise me.
It’s with all of this in mind that I’m hyped that a sequel is on the way in the form of the codenamed Project Orion.
That sequel is many years away given that development isn’t set to become CD Projekt RED’s main focus until after The Witcher IV has launched in the next couple of years.

Even still, there’s plenty of chatter around what the sequel should look like.
Will it be a traditional sequel? Will it introduce entirely new characters? Should it have multiplayer or introduce a third-person mode?
Personally, I’m not all that bothered about what happens when it comes to setting and story.
I do hope the gameplay isn’t too revolutionary though. Cyberpunk 2077 is already brilliant so minor improvements would honestly do the trick.
In fact, I’ve unearthed a mod that essentially puts what I’m saying into practice, adding a handy new mechanic that seamlessly slots into place.
Grab a Companion To Traverse Night City
NexusMods user DrayStation has launched ‘Night City Allies - Immersive Companion System’ on PC which subtly introduces companion mechanics.
At the moment, Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t have a fully fledged companion system.
Players are typically only ever accompanied by an NPC when the story calls for it, or when they engage in romance.
This mod allows players to call characters from their in-game phone, with the summoned character then able to assist in combat or simply join you to explore Night City and beyond.
There are other mods out there doing a similar thing, but DrayStation’s has been created with simplicity in mind, so it’s perfect if you’re not exactly a modding expert.

The creator does offer the note that if you give your spawned companion a weapon, for example, that weapon becomes theirs and will not return to your inventory, so that is worth keeping in mind.
Already, this mod has been downloaded thousands of times and it’s mere days old.
“Great mod. Been having a lot of fun testing it out,” wrote one happy player.
“I think this is a very important update. Honestly, it’s necessary,” added another.
Someone wrote, “Excellent job on the mod. A very welcome addition to my load order!”
Here’s to hoping that Project Orion adds a similar mechanic as I really do think Cyerpunk 2077 lends itself to companion-based gameplay.
It’s a great substitute if CD Projekt RED doesn’t want to go down the multiplayer route, which I don’t think is entirely necessary.
