GTA 6 be damned, this San Andreas Unreal Engine remake is a beauty

San Andreas has never looked better!

GTA VI can wait because this San Andreas remake, powered by Unreal Engine 5, is a thing of beauty.

When it comes to open-world action adventures, it doesn't get much better than Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series.

The open worlds of the franchise are packed with fun activities, memorable NPCs, high-octane action and stories that will keep you hooked throughout any of Rockstar Games' offerings.

Trying to pick out a single best entry in the series is a gruelling task, but a game that may be on the top of many lists would be 2004’s GTA: San Andreas, which was originally released on the PlayStation 2.

“Five years ago, Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas... a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption,” reads the synopsis of GTA: San Andreas.

“Where film stars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers. Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home.”

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you will be well aware that next year, GTA VI graces us with its presence, a game that will no doubt be intended to be as beloved as GTA: San Andreas.

It’s unlikely that we’ll see GTA: San Andreas ever get a remake, though we have had a remaster. That being said, as reported by DSOGaming, a talented fan has taken matters into their own hands by creating a gorgeous Unreal Engine 5 remake.

The fan in question is the YouTuber EnzoElRich YT, and they’ve recreated the opening moments of when CJ returns home to discover that while things have changed, a lot remains the same, such as being pestered by officers Tenpenny and Pulaski.

The Unreal Engine 5 remake uses the same camera angles and very similar animations to make it as faithful a recreation as can be. It even rips the same voices from the source material, including Samuel L. Jackson as Officer Tenpenny.

The gameplay uploaded to EnzoElRich YT YouTube channel also showcases some exploration via walking, driving a car and riding a bike. The gameplay does look a bit choppy at times, but it’s worth keeping in mind that EnzoElRich YT has created this on his own, which is very impressive.

Unfortunately, while this is a non-profit project, there’s every chance that Rockstar Games will order this remake to be deleted from all existence at some point, which would be a shame.
