The wait for GTA VI continues to slowly truck along but fear not as, in the meantime, fans can head back to the iconic San Andreas courtesy of a brand-new update.

First released way back in 2004, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is one of the most beloved in the Grand Theft Auto franchise and continues to be talked and memed about to this day.

Following a remastered version released in 2021, San Andreas has had something of a resurgence in recent years and that is definitely helped by the community’s talented creators.

One such creator is esun over on ModDB who, following the release of their Grand Theft Auto: Recall San Andreas mod back in February, has now released added material including new and restored peds, weapons, vehicles, vehicle parts, maps, and more.

The updated Recall San Andreas mod goes above and beyond to continue the success of the original mod by introducing an impressive number of assets to the beloved game.

With the original game showcasing just 280 or so peds and NPCs, this new update features over 1000 with around “20-30% of them supporting remaps”.

“As you may know, the Definitive Edition horribly failed in updating San Andreas' models,” the team explains.

“We have carefully updated all of the characters to the most faithful models and textures we could find.

The vast majority of characters come in HD and have been created by the community, with a small percentage being only high quality upscales due to not having faithful models available yet.”

There are also 43 new weapons, 85+ vehicles, 20+ vehicle parts, new haircuts, clothes and maps.

Recall San Andreas is the perfect way to explore the game that you dedicated many hours in your childhood to or maybe, you want to check out GTA: San Andreas for the first time without having to deal with the clunky remaster.

Luckily, this mod is free to download on PC and is available right now.
