Itâs the end of an era. Call of Duty: Warzone has officially been taken offline on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as Activision ends support for previous-gen consoles.
The move hardly came without warning. It was in May of this year that the news first came to light.
On June 4, Call of Duty: Warzone was removed from digital storefronts on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
In-game store purchases were also removed, with Battle Pass and Battle Pass Bundles no longer able to be purchased with COD Points.

From June 25, the entirety of the in-game store was removed from Call of Duty: Warzone on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
And now, the game has been totally delisted, coinciding with the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 on current-gen consoles.
For those who are yet to upgrade to the current-gen, all Warzone progress should carry over when you do eventually upgrade and regain access to the game, as long as you use the same linked Activision account.
COD Points, however, only carry over to a console within the same console family, so if you upgrade from a PS4 to a PS5, youâll be fine, but they may be lost if you upgrade from a PS4 to an Xbox Series X.
All other Call of Duty titles remain available on those previous-gen consoles; itâs only Warzone that is affected.

Many fans think Warzoneâs previous-gen closure is actually long overdue

While Warzoneâs previous-gen player base will have dwindled over the years, youâd still expect Call of Duty fans to mourn the end of an era. Instead, quite the opposite is happening.
âTook them long enough,â said Reddit user TiredReader87.
âI mean, youâve gotta give them credit, 12 years of COD support is crazy,â added Esemes16.
User dope415 commented, âGood. Time to move on.â
Many encouraged Epic Games to do the same to Fortniteâs previous-gen versions next.
As for why that would be encouraged, well, it means more developers focusing on the platforms the vast majority of players are utilising.
Of course, studios have to weigh up how many previous-gen players theyâll lose.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is a major comeback for the once flailing franchise
Itâs been a relatively smooth launch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, it must be said.
It wasnât totally free of controversy, with the game featuring footage of a real-life tragedy, which is now being revoked.
The main campaign, however, attracted great praise from critics, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 holding a score of 85 on Metacritic.
Windows Central awarded a perfect score of five stars, writing: âModern Warfare 4 is the quintessential Call of Duty experience â both beautiful and violent, endearing and heartbreaking.
âFrom a gut-wrenching campaign that is nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece to a thrilling DMZ mode that challenges players' fortitude and a well-rounded multiplayer with new features that keep things fresh, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 might just be the best CoD ever.â
