EA has brought back the beloved 90s classic Road Rash to PC via Steam for its 30th anniversary, complete with some surprising upgrades, including 60fps support. For those of us who grew up gaming in the 90s, there's nothing quite like the nostalgia of knocking rival racers off their bikes.
Road Rash made its debut in 1991 on the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis before making its way to other platforms, with the PC version arriving in 1996. The series became a fan favourite thanks to its chaotic motorcycle races, combining high speeds, brutal combat, and a fantastic soundtrack.
It truly was a unique racing game for its time, standing out from other racers by letting players attack rivals while avoiding traffic and the police. Now, with Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition, EA is giving fans the chance to relive those fond memories with some welcome modern improvements.
Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition brings some huge upgrades
As we've already established, Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition is not just a straight-up port; it brings some welcome upgrades that arguably make this beloved classic an even better experience. Those 30th anniversary upgrades include:
- 60fps support: Improved performance on modern PCs, with gameplay now running at up to 60fps.
- Original rock soundtrack: The iconic soundtrack returns, featuring bands such as Soundgarden, Monster Magnet and Therapy?. Better still, you can now listen to the music while racing.
- Improved cinematics: EA has restored the original live-action cutscenes from the master tapes, with optional upscaling for sharper visuals.
- Modern controller support: Native support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers, so you won't have to rely on a keyboard.
- Windowed mode: You can now play Road Rash in a window rather than being restricted to full-screen.
- Cloud saves: Save your progress to the cloud, making it easier to pick up where you left off on another PC.
Right now, Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition has a 50 percent launch discount, bringing the price down to $4.99/Ā£4.49, from $9.99/Ā£8.99. However, this discount ends on November 19, 2026.
