A previous Rockstar Games employee has claimed Grand Theft Auto VI has been in development for over a decade.

Despite the occasional gameplay leak and unconfirmed rumour, we’re still in the dark when it comes to Rockstar’s next open-world adventure, Grand Theft Auto VI.

Rockstar’s publisher Take-Two Interactive has hinted the game will release sometime in 2025, but we’re yet to receive confirmation, as well as an official first look at the game.

However, a previous developer for Rockstar Games has emerged with some juicy information about the title, specifically how long it’s been in development. While the developer will go unnamed, a post on their LinkedIn summarises their experience in the game industry, with one line reading: “Grand Theft Auto VI- Lead Video Editor, Research Dept. (2015-2018).

The post implies GTA VI entered development two years after Grand Theft Auto V was released.

To be fair, it’s not surprising. GTA VI is rumoured to be enormous compared to GTA V, including several cities to explore instead of just one. Insider information also suggests there’ll be more detail in the world than ever before, as well as more activities for the player to get involved with.

It’s also likely a large part of GTA VI will be its new online mode, which will need even more content to keep players interested over the long term. That being said, players are concerned the next iteration of GTA Online will be littered with microtransactions, especially after how much money was generated from them in GTA V.

It wasn’t just GTA on the developer’s resume though, there was also a line regarding Bully 2 and Bully 3, sequels to the original Rockstar game released in 2006.

In other news, Red Dead Redemption fans still aren’t over the disappointing announcement of the Red Dead Redemption 1 re-release. The upcoming port has been criticised and review-bombed for its price point, as well as for adding no new content or improvements whatsoever.

Grand Theft Auto VI is yet to receive an official reveal, but fingers-crossed Rockstar has something planned for later in the year.
