‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season Two Could Be On The Way

Several cast members have expressed that they'd like to return for a second season of the show.

With just one episode left, Obi-Wan Kenobi is almost ready to draw to a close and it’s been a divisive ride. Obi-Wan Kenobi was perhaps the most anticipated of Disney Plus’ Star Wars shows but for many, it’s also been the most underwhelming.

There’s no denying that it’s great to see Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen return to the franchise, and the scenes between Obi-Wan and Anakin/Vader are the series’ strongest. Alongside that though, we have a stake-less plot, weird flying mechanics, and some absurd action sequences. It’s a mixed bag of a show, but it’s one that may not be the miniseries we initially thought it to be.

Next up on the Star Wars roster is Star Wars: Andor. Check out the trailer below ahead of the show’s 31 August release.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was conceived as a six-episode miniseries, bridging the gap between Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith and Episode 4 - A New Hope. It turns out though, almost everyone working on the show is actually hoping for another season. Given the fact that everyone is onboard and a ton of people are watching the show (even if they don’t have the best things to say), it stands a real chance that Disney Plus could go ahead with green-lighting this.

Series writer and director Deborah Chow spoke to Radiotimes saying, “There are of course more stories that you could tell. There's obviously another 10 years before we get to A New Hope and with a character like Obi-Wan Kenobi, I think even just watching him ride across the sand sometimes is interesting. So, who knows? It's hard to say right now." Ideally, season two would be more interesting than watching Obi-Wan riding across the sand but hey, it’s a start.

Hayden Christensen added, “I would love to continue with this character. You know, I think there's certainly more there to explore and I would be so excited to get to do so.”

You can’t have Obi-Wan Kenobi without good ol’ Ben but Ewan McGregor is onboard too. He told Radiotimes, “I hope it’s not the last time I play him. I had such a great time doing this, I'm sure we can think of a few more stories before I turn into Alec Guinness, don't you think?" There’s definitely a few lessons to be learnt from this initial run of episodes but I don’t think any Star Wars fan would turn down a second series.
