New Twisted Metal game in development, says insider

New Twisted Metal game in development, says insider

A new Twisted Metal game could be coming as soon as next year, according to one insider.

It’s been an entire decade since we were last treated to a new Twisted Metal game yet the franchise looks poised to make a major comeback in 2023. In case you missed it, Twisted Metal is getting its own TV series and the “brilliantly funny adaptation” officially wrapped in August of this year. We don’t know much about the show but we should expect to see it drop some time next year.

That’s not all. For some time now, insiders have been teasing a new Twisted Metal game. It makes sense, releasing a new game to coincide with the release of the TV series. I don’t claim to be a marketing expert, but that seems like marketing 101. We last heard of this rumoured game a year ago, but insiders have now reaffirmed that the project is alive and kicking.

Speaking of TV adaptations, who’s excited for HBO’s take on The Last of Us? Check out the trailer below.

As pointed out by Reddit user Systemshock1994, David Jaffe has seemingly confirmed that a new Twisted Metal game is in development in a YouTube video. It’s not something that’s been confirmed by Sony, but Jaffe is a credible source. The developer worked as game director on 1996’s Twisted Metal 2, 2001’s Twisted Metal: Black, and 2012’s Twisted Metal - although he doesn’t appear to be working on the reboot.

A leaked Sony document previously teased that Lucid Games was working on a title known as Redstar. The genre was listed as vehicle combat, whilst it was also confirmed that the game would be multiplayer and would release on the PlayStation 5. Well, Jaffe said, “This list, do you want to know the codename for the new Twisted Metal which I am telling you is absolutely in development, it is Redstar.”

Take this with a pinch of salt, as the list itself hasn’t been verified as a real Sony document but Jaffe notes that it fits with what he knows. I’d hazard a guess that if this does prove to be true, we’ll see more in the coming months.
