It is sad news for the Blade Runner fans out there as the Until Dawn developer has revealed that its project set in the sci-fi universe has been scrapped.

However, the one silver lining is that the news inadvertently gave us a clue on what year we can expect to see the PlayStation 6 launch.

Supermassive Games is the brains behind The Quarry. Check out a gameplay preview below!

Supermassive Games - most known for its work on Until Dawn and The Quarry - has revealed that its unannounced Blade Runner title has been scrapped just months after pre-production kicked off back in September 2024.

At the time of writing, we do not yet know why but it is believed that it relates to Alcon Entertainment, the owner of Blade Runner rights.

Regardless of why, it is still heartbreaking news as according to one source, the project was already “rather impressive”.

Rumoured to be titled Blade Runner: Time to Live, the game’s campaign would have taken around 10-12 hours and would feature "the philosophical themes of Blade Runner with kinetic action-adventure gameplay".

However, it is seemingly not to be and this is especially sad news considering that the Supermassive title was set to launch on current-gen consoles as well as the PlayStation 6.

It is believed that Blade Runner: Time to Live would launch on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as the next-gen Xbox console and the PlayStation 6 and was set for a 2027 release.

So although it is sad news that yet another exciting project has been cancelled, it does give us some insight into the PlayStation 6, especially as we can now assume that it will already be available by 2027.

As of right now, the PS6 is expected to be in development but how far along production is is anybody’s guess.

However, we can assume that it is coming along nicely if Supermassive Games had plans to release a future title on it in just two years time.

Of course, nothing has been confirmed by Sony at this time.
