The PlayStation 6 isn’t due out for several years, hopefully, but despite that, many would say it’s still too soon to release another console.
Honestly, I agree, at least with the Nintendo Switch 2, there was a solid seven or eight year gap between the previous Switch and the new one, that’s a good amount of time to take stock of what games have been released so far and how to improve upon the hardware.
It looks like a great console too, and it’s got a Mario Kart game at launch, how can we grumble?
Sony clearly doesn’t share that same mindset though, as while there’s been a sizeable gap between the likes of the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, it's sort of cheated with all the console revisions.

The PlayStation 5 Slim and PlayStation 5 Pro, for example, fall into that category - the same console but slightly more powerful, and with just as many games.
With news that a PlayStation 6 is expected by 2027, fans have gathered to say it’s too soon, like one fan who said, “We've barely started getting games that aren't available on last-gen, WTF is the point,” in a Reddit thread.
The same sentiment was shared by other commenters who not only bashed PlayStation’s eagerness to release new hardware but other companies like Xbox too.
They said: “This generation of consoles in general is very, very underwhelming. A handful of blockbuster titles really doesn’t cut it.”

New console are great, they’re exciting and they’re often worth the price of the upgrade, especially if you can play some banging exclusive games on them, but as of late, it feels like innovative progress has stalled a tad.
It’s why the Nintendo Switch 2 feels so exciting, as it’s a very clear and definitive upgrade over the previous console; hopefully the PlayStation 6 will be the same.
