PlayStation gamers unite over PS6 release window

Despite many of us only just settling into our time with the PlayStation 5, rumours reveal that Sony has already turned its attention to development on the PlayStation 6.

However, it seems as though many PlayStation users believe that it is just too soon.

Rewind back to 2020 and despite the latest PlayStation console being released, many potential users could not get their hands on one.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, stock shortages, and scalpers, the PlayStation 5 was almost impossible to get ahold of which means that for many of us, we have barely scratched the surface of what the console is capable of.

However, with reports that Sony has already begun development on the PlayStation 6, users recently took to r/unpopularopinion to share, well, their unpopular opinions.

“The PlayStation 6 does not need to be released anytime soon,” one post read.

They go into detail about how, despite being an avid PlayStation lover, they believe that it is too soon for a variety of different reasons.

“There are roughly 129 million+ users on PSN, and 59 million on the PS4. How do you have half of your users on a console which was released 11 years ago and a million on a console from 19 years ago?” they asked.

“With few exclusives, a high price, and still finding its footing in user numbers even five years later, the PS5 needs more time to breathe. And let's not forget that the PS5 Pro was released a while ago. People still need to get used to that chunk of plastic. The PlayStation 6 doesn't need to be released in 2027, wait until 2029-2030 at least.”

With the post racking up almost 400 comments, it seems as though the vast majority of users agree with the original poster’s statement.

“I could agree with this. PS5 was released just under five years ago. I'd wait for another three to four years before releasing the 6,” the top comment read.

Another said: “They should probably release some games for the PS5 first.”

It is unclear when the PlayStation 6 will launch but it seems as though users are in no rush to say goodbye to their PS5 just yet.
